The route has been changed twice, partly due to it passing through a significant section of forest that was at risk to change from either forestry, bauxite mining or dieback. Winter can be wet, especially in the southern areas but people walk the track any time from March to December. The Northern Terminus is at Kalamunda, 24km 30 minutes east of Perth. One of the shorter sections of the Track, this is 60 km of beautiful jarrah, marri and karri forest country.
Albany is km 4. The seven-day section provides a range of recreation opportunities including the metre tree top at the Forest Heritage Centre and School of Wood, canoeing and whitewater rafting at Baden Powel water spout on the Murray River. The remainder of the track is through coastal forest and scrub along the south coast, in some sections routed along sandy beaches. You can make it a wilderness experience by camping outyou can join a guided groupa touror you can do it in comfort by staying in the towns along the Track and enjoying day walks in the area.

This might involve arranging a car shuffle, swapping keys as two groups meet at a campsite, or having someone drop you off and collect you at the other end.
